The author's rock solid grasp of the theory of music, has really helped me to build my playing on solid ground, yet while the words 'theory' and 'dull' normally sit together, it doesn't apply here! It's hands-on, musical and fun.I've bought a number of his books, and the variation in book themes (jazz, blues or technique) helps my practice sessions to remain varied, and therefore more interesting, the result being that I put in more playing hours.
I now pick up the guitar with much more enthusiasm than when I was just collecting licks, as I'm able to fit everything into the right place musically and transpose it when required. Each book is peppered with great advice and reminders on the right approach to take, when practicing so, the increased playing hours are more productive too!
Basically, they've given a lot more fuel to my lifelong passion for the guitar, and I'm very glad that I found them.

I appreciate Joseph's ability to present a clear picture of the essentials without unnecessarily complicating the subject.

This is an excellent well written book by Joseph Alexander on Drop 2 voicing and Jazz substitution chords which will expand your knowledge of the fretboard for modern jazz guitar. I also found that the clearly notated voicings and ideas could be applied to keyboard playing as well as guitar.
As one who has never done jazz chords before, I had to spend some time with this but it is well worth it. It is clearly structured and well written. In the end learned a lot.
This book is very approachable, well organized and easy to understand. It has helped me understand and incorporate new chord voicings into my comping.
Drop 2 is a pretty simple concept once you understand it. If you've spent your time bar-chording your way through three-chord rock tunes, it's nice having a simple break down with some tasty chord selections that makes it a lot easier to adapt.
You are probably looking at this book because you have an interest in developing your guitar abilities beyond stock open chord voicings and power chords. If true then this book is for you. Everything you will need to use Drop 2 chords is presented clearly and logically. Joseph Alexander is a seasoned instructor with a gift at presenting material in an easy to understand manner . After studying this material you will be able to use it and find yourself a better guitarist. I own several of Mr. Alexander's books and highly recommend them to any guitarist who want to advance on the guitar.
